Howden Re continues its build out in Continental Europe with Howden Capital Markets & Advisory adding a German entity

Munich / London – [April 09, 2026] – Howden Capital Markets & Advisory (“HCMA”), Howden’s specialist risk, capital and strategic advisory business, has established a German entity, continuing its expansion across Continental Europe and strengthening its support for clients, with capital markets and strategic advisory solutions. Howden Capital Markets & Advisory (EU) GmbH has been granted a licence as an investment firm by the German Federal Financial Supervisory Authority (BaFin). The new entity builds HCMA’s established and growing business in Continental Europe, reinforcing its ability to combine local execution with global sector expertise.

This development reflects increasing demand from European insurers and reinsurers for advice that extends beyond traditional risk transfer. Clients are making greater use of capital markets solutions and strategic transactions to manage balance sheet volatility, optimise capital under Solvency II, and access alternative sources of capacity. Activity across insurance-linked securities (ILS), capital raising and M&A continues to deepen across the region, particularly in markets where dedicated advisory coverage has historically been limited.

HCMA’s established reputation in Continental Europe as an independent advisor to the P&C insurance market, combined with Howden Re’s local expertise, rapid growth and investment in the region, offers clients capital markets capability, reinsurance insight, and access to global investors. The establishment of HCMA’s regulated platform in Germany marks a further step in its long-term commitment to the region, enabling closer engagement with clients and enhanced execution capabilities.

Jarad Madea, CEO, Howden Capital Markets & Advisory, said: “HCMA has established itself as a leading independent advisor to the global P&C insurance market. Continental Europe represents a significant opportunity for capital advisory globally, with increasing deal activity and growing investor interest in the sector. Our model—combining deep sector expertise with full integration across Howden Re—positions us to deliver differentiated outcomes for clients across the region.”

Alexander Roth, Managing Director and Head of Capital & Operational Solutions, Howden Re, added: “The launch of Howden Capital Markets & Advisory’s German entity is the next milestone in Howden Re’s ongoing growth and investment in Continental Europe. Strengthening capabilities in the region underlines our sustained commitment to European clients and ambition to scale our capital advisory offering globally.”

Philipp Kusche, Chairman of HCMA Europe and Global Co-Head of ILS, said: “Continental Europe is seeing a structural shift in how insurers and reinsurers access and manage capital. Demand for capital markets solutions, from hybrid capital, strategic transactions through insurance-linked securities, is increasing. This expansion allows us to combine our global expertise of HCMA with a strong local presence.

This development builds on significant growth and investment in Howden Re’s Continental European and Capital Solutions offerings over the past three years. Alexander Roth was appointed as Managing Director, Head of Capital & Operational Solutions Europe in 2024, establishing a dedicated European Capital Solutions team offering, and embedding advisory and structured reinsurance capabilities alongside an expanding regional footprint. Over the past 24 months, Howden Re has strengthened its presence across Germany and Switzerland in both Treaty and Facultative expertise. Local hubs and market expertise is seamlessly supported by world-class capital modelling and strategic risk transfer solutions to meet the sophisticated demands of European cedants.

Howden Capital Markets & Advisory advises insurance and reinsurance companies, investors and intermediaries across mergers and acquisitions, capital raising, insurance-linked securities and broader strategic advisory.
