Read the Intelligent Insurer article for Monte Carlo Today, “Cyber threats evolve, so must data,“ in which Luke Foord-Kelcey, Head of Global Cyber, Howden Re and Harriet Gruen, Head of Threat Intelligence, Howden Re explaining that while cyber threat actors’ techniques continue to evolve, so too does the industry’s ability to respond, driving more positive outcomes for clients and reinsurers.

Both agree that models must evolve, stronger data, sharper assumptions, and proactive strategies are key to building resilience.

At Howden Re, the priority is ensuring clients and partners turn today’s evolving threat landscape into an opportunity to sharpen their risk strategies.

As cyber threats are evolving, Gruen said so too must the data used to access risk:

Some of the tools that have been historically used to assess risk, or some of the controls seen as a minimum standard, won’t necessarily be effective against all of these attack factors. Minimum standards therefore need recalibrating.”

Foord-Kelcey said the role of the cyber reinsurer is to always stay ahead of the threat landscape, commenting:

“As the threat landscape evolves, our role is to ensure the industry does not just keep pace but stays ahead. By strengthening data inputs and constantly challenging assumptions, we can turn volatility into resilience, for insureds, carriers and, ultimately, the wider economy.”

Key takeaways:

  • Cyber threats are evolving, so must our data
  • Why current models need updating
  • Better data, stronger models
