Howden Re appoints Eloise Hurley Wellington to lead European Programmes business

Howden Re, the global reinsurance, capital markets and strategic advisory arm of Howden, the global insurance intermediary group, has appointed Eloise Hurley Wellington to lead Howden Re Programmes Europe, as the business continues to support clients in Europe’s growing and evolving MGA market.

Hurley Wellington brings extensive experience across delegated authority and specialty insurance, with a track record advising MGAs, carriers and entrepreneurial underwriting businesses across Europe. Since joining Howden Re in 2023, she has played a central role in developing its European MGA and programmes business, expanding insurer relationships and supporting clients throughout the MGA lifecycle.

Howden Re has been at the forefront of analysing the evolution of the European MGA sector. Its 2025 report, Agents of Change, identified more than 650 MGAs across Europe and approximately €18 billion of gross written premium in 2024, with the market growing at a five-year CAGR of around 23%. Its latest analysis, Filtered for Quality: A Refined View of Europe’s MGA Market, estimated European MGA gross written premium at more than US$23 billion in 2025, up around 15% year-on-year.

As the European MGA market continues to mature, Howden Re is bringing together expertise from across its global business to support MGA clients, spanning programmes, reinsurance, analytics, capital markets and strategic advisory.
