Howden Re, the global reinsurance, capital markets and strategic advisory division of Howden, the global insurance intermediary group, today announces the appointment of Candy Wong as Head of Treaty for Hong Kong. She will join the business on 18 August 2025, further strengthening Howden Re’s commitment to building a differentiated, client-centric reinsurance platform in and for the Hong Kong market.

Candy has worked in the reinsurance market for more than 40 years, half of which included leadership roles in the Hong Kong market. She joins Howden Re from Guy Carpenter following its merger with JLT Re, where she served as a Managing Director, leading strategic growth initiatives and client development. She previously spent more than three decades at Aon Re China Ltd., latterly as a Managing Director.

Candy’s appointment follows the recent launch of Howden Re’s reinsurance platform in Hong Kong by Managing Director, Roy Wong, and builds on the earlier hires of senior brokers Brian Chan and Karen Liu, expanding its local expertise. It also represents another milestone in Howden Re’s strategic investment in talent and expansion across Asia Pacific, including the appointment of John Philipsz as Head of Australia and New Zealand and the establishment of a treaty offering in Taiwan under Jimmy Tsai.

As Head of Treaty, Candy will lead Howden Re’s Hong Kong office, focused on developing and delivering the firm’s treaty reinsurance proposition as well as bringing technical expertise and market insight to Hong Kong-based clients.

Andy Souter, Head of Asia Pacific, Howden Re International said: “Candy is one of the most experienced and trusted professionals in the Hong Kong reinsurance market. Her deep expertise, leadership credentials, and client insight make her a vital addition to our growing platform. She has a strong track record of building both Specialty and Property & Casualty capabilities, which will help to shape our local presence for years to come. Together with the rest of the leadership team, she will support our growing reputation for client-focused excellence in the region.”

Candy Wong said: “I am excited to join Howden Re at such an exciting time for its business in Asia Pacific. I look forward to working closely with Roy and the broader leadership team to help build a treaty proposition that reflects the needs and ambitions of Hong Kong clients.”
